The course I took was ‘Social Policy Under Multiple Perspectives’. The sub-themes included ‘spatial social policies and urban inequalities’, ‘pandemic and social policy’, ‘gendered spaces’ and so on. Before the meeting, we would read related essays and prepare a presentation according to the topic. During the meeting, the tutor would ask us some questions like what we think about it. And he encouraged us to present our own opinions. What’s more, we were encouraged to interact with each other and make comments after partners’ presentation. All in all, we were required to take part in the discussion actively.
The tutor inspired us to think comprehensively and critically. He gave us some information and knowledge about social policies from a lot of countries. We also got many radio resources which introduced social policies using a vivid way. I got a lot of new ideas from our discussion and the tutor’s explanation. Some topics were those I didn’t think of before. The topics and tutorial teaching method were really new to me. So, I really learned a lot due to this experience.
Apart from the meetings, we wrote an essay about one social policy. And there were academic support meetings. During these meetings, the tutor gave us instructions about our essays. She also taught us how to write an essay related to social policy field. And finally, we completed our essay with the help of the writing tutor.
I learn a lot of knowledge from this program. Now, I have a thorough understanding of social policy and inequality. At the same time, I get my English ability trained. It is helpful to communicate and interact with each other using English. All in all, I get a lot from this program.
