It’s a great honor for me to have the opportunity to participate in the Winter Program, and I really gratitude to Jilin University, University of Cambridge and Imperial College London, for organizing such a wonderful program. I have gained a lot.
First, I have learned a lot about the methods in academic study in my major by the discussions set in the sessions, and the sufficient illustration from the teacher. Since I hold much passion for philosophy, it’s no doubt that the program enriched my knowledge in my own major.
Second, I have learned how to make critical thinking and critical writing, which is very essential. My English-writing abilities and the expression capacity have improved a lot. What’s more, I have successfully finished two presentation assignments with other members in our group during the program. The assessment and suggestions from the professor are also very useful for my own improvement.
Third, I have gained much progress in reading English materials. Before each session, we are assigned to preview the relative materials. This not only helps us to be familiar with the topic to be discussed in the next session, but also enhances our reading ability. Now I’m able to read English materials efficiently as well as picking the core opinions and getting the general guidelines for the argument.
Fourth, I really enjoy the teaching methods in the program, which are full of discussion and interaction. The questions proposed by our professor lead us to thinking critically by ourselves. In addition, through the cooperation in our group, I felt a lot about teamwork. I have learned more about how to distribute the assignments among the group members and finally accomplish the whole task.
All in all, the program has improved my academic competence and further inspired my passion for philosophy. I sincerely hope that more programs like this can be held in the near future.
