I participated in the online course of social policy taught by Professor Max Beber in Cambridge University, which aims to improve my English reading, listening, understanding and writing ability, deepen my knowledge of sociological theories, broaden my academic horizon, and understand the academic research paradigm and thinking of western countries.
In order to prepare for this project, I have conducted English listening, speaking and writing training, which has improved my language sense and laid a foundation for English learning. At the same time, I also got to know the theoretical knowledge and academic research status of western social policies in advance, which laid a solid theoretical foundation for the study of social policies. I also read some course books and papers recommended by the professor.
In terms of courses, teaching methods, scientific research and organization, I think the difficulty of the course content is appropriate. Although I was unfamiliar with the western social policy research mode at the beginning, I gradually got used to it with the deepening understanding. The course content is very valuable for us to understand the development and current situation of Western social policy under different knowledge frameworks. Professor Max's teaching method is very interesting, interactive, explanatory and expansive, which is of great help to our understanding of the course. In terms of course organization, the teaching assistants are also very friendly and enthusiastic.
I benefited a lot from participating in this project. I have received comprehensive English training and improved my English academic ability and understanding ability. I have learned about the development of western social policies, their different research ideas and frameworks, and the development status and problems of Western social policies, which are of great help to my understanding of Western society. At the same time, I also improved my English writing ability and practiced my academic thinking.
In the process of participating in the project, I encountered some problems. For example, the professional works recommended by the professor required too much English proficiency and were difficult to understand. For these problems, I suggest that professors should be able to evaluate and feedback students' questions and papers in a timely manner.
